The Worth of a Challenge

If you give a child a fish, you feed him for a day.
If you teach a child to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.
But if you teach a child to learn, you feed him for a lifetime
and he doesn't have to just eat fish.

Field Trip!

Today we had lots of sunshine all around, so why sit inside.....

We headed out to an awesome park that had not just one, but three play structures adjacent to each other. It was marvelous! I have to say, I am now a huge advocate for those huge coverings. It was at least 15 degrees cooler under them.

Benji continued his love affair with climbing and sliding

And Jacob was loving the activity centers on the playground
This place was a winner and I have no doubt we will be back again!

Other highlights include Jacob taking on a kite by him self
And Benji being king of the rock wall.
And this green and yellow tube tunnel

Snowy Day Field Trip

We capped off our snowy day unit with a trip to Big Bear. The kids don't see snow regularly where we live so we decided to take the kids to the snow instead. We anxiously drove for hours but as we got higher up the mountain the colder and more snowy it got. The children were thrilled. I was delighted to see the kids climbing eagerly onto the sled and throwing snowballs all afternoon. It was a wonderful day.

A Trip Out West!

We have been spending a lot of time talking about westward expansion and life in the old west and civil war. Our field trip was to a historical site where we could learn more about how life was back then.

We took an awesome ride on a train to get there

"this place is great!"

"look mom, no seatbelts"

We then went inside the Mormon Battalion Historic Site

We watched a very well done presentation about moving west and what life was like.

We tried on historic clothing

Learned about brick making, a skill they brought out west.

Panned for gold(think Sutter's Mill  and the 49'ers)

learned how to pump water from a well

After that we had a light lunch and took the train home....what a great day! We are so thankful to live in this modern day with all the wonderful freedoms we have and nothing drove that home more than seeing people living the simplest lives.

Field Trip!

So we had a way fun time at our field trip to the Science Museum.

We made smoke signals

Played in a huge sand and water table

Played with legos

Drove the zamboni (it's just a display one!)

Found just the right hockey stick!

Learned about the different ice skates

did a little engineering

Played some learning games

and built a dinosaur!

We had a marvelous time and we learned some stuff on the way. What wasn't pictured was when we sat in the earth quake booth, that seemed to keep our attention long enough, but not long enough to get a photo!

Griffith Park with Great Grandpa!

Wednesday, we had the opportunity to go visit my Grandfather(Benji's Great Grandpa) and go to Griffith Park with him. I had a great time as did Benji. We consider it a treat to spend time with him.

The park was huge and accessable for children with disabilities and all age ranges.....it was very cool!

Did I mention there was a train?

Grandpa put the play ground in reverse. Great job working the standard transmission!

You're never too old to take a trip down the slide!

I think I need one of these at home!

And then after about an hour and a half of running around in the heat he was red and tired.

Grandpa we love you!

Field Trip!

It's just me and Benji since my husband and Jacob are off house hunting. We joined my Aunt and fun cousins at the world renowned San Diego Zoo. We had such an awesome time, and Benji enjoyed having my undivided attention.

so I wasn't really sure what he would be most interested in seeing. He likes frogs, but beyond that, I wasn't really sure.

I soon realized he LOVES the polar bears. He just could not get enough of those bears.

Perhaps it is because they are as playful and unpredictable as he is. What ever it is, it kept him going back for more.

This is the closest to getting one as a pet as he was going to get!

Other cool highlights from the zoo include:
turtles

koalas

giraffe

gazelle

camels

elephants
lions
